A Career in Consumer Financing | haa

What is consumer financing? Basically, this enables the customer to buy certain items either through their credit card or a loan. Some examples of these include purchasing a house, a car, college tuition or home improvement and given that these are necessities, you may have a career in consumer financing.

Your career will start by being a sales agent and offering credit cards to customers. Unlike debit cards that are provided by banks, the consumer can only spend a certain limit monthly and then pay these back when the bill comes.

Some of the people that are interested have never had a credit card before while others are getting another one.

If you know the features and benefits of the card you are selling very well, you may even persuade others to transfer their existing balance thus increasing the number of clients that your company is serving. This is better known as debt consolidation.

Other products that companies are offering these days include financing campaigns, interest free loans, installment loans and revolving credit.

For those who do well selling credit cards, your boss might let you handle something else like approve loans to card holders. This is as financial institutions allow you to do more than just buy items from the store. You can use your credit card to pay for home improvement, tuition or buy a car.

The terms for these purchases vary and it is the responsibility of the person to pay the amount otherwise these will be repossessed when it is impossible to pay these back with the amount of interest that has been incurred.

But not everyone will be out in the field selling credit cards. There are those who will work in the head office who analyze the behavior of the customer. If there was a sudden large purchase, that person is tasked to call the card holder and ask if a transaction was made or not given that identify theft is on the rise.

Some will be tasked to approve or disapprove the application of the customer for a credit card or a loan. The basis will be that person?s credit history. If it is good, then there won?t be any problems but if there is red flag, chances are this will not disapproved as the individual is a high risk individual.

For those who have been in the consumer financing industry long and want a change of atmosphere, they can join organizations that help people get a good rating once again. They are tasked in counseling individuals who have spent beyond their means by helping them pay back the debt. This is better known as consumer credit counseling so that person will always have financial stability.

In fact, the information provided by such companies is also used as a basis of whether or not to approve a customer?s loan. If everything is in good order, then there shouldn?t be any problems.

Consumer financing is expected to grow given that people don?t always have the cash on hand to buy whatever they want. Some of the companies that you can apply to if you want to start a career in consumer financing include American General Finance Inc, CitiFinancial, General Electric Finance, HSBC and Wells Fargo Financial. You just have to apply for the position and hopefully be hired.

Schizophrenia?s core genetic features proposed

Researchers may be closing in on disease?s inherited component

Web edition : Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

Schizophrenia?s elusive genetic roots may finally be within grasp. A new, wide-ranging effort has uncovered a set of DNA signatures that are shared by people with the disease consistently enough that the set can be used to reliably predict whether someone has the disease. If replicated, the results may point out ways to diagnose schizophrenia and suggest new targets for treatment.

By analyzing a battery of 542 genetic variants, researchers could predict who had schizophrenia in a group of European Americans and African Americans. The confirmation of the result in people of varying ancestry suggests that the set of genes truly does detect the core features of the disorder, scientists report online May 15 in Molecular Psychiatry.

?Genetic studies in psychiatry tend to produce initial excitement but are then not reproduced in independent populations, which is the most important proof that a finding is solid and real,? says study coauthor Alexander Niculescu of the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.

Niculescu and his colleagues created their gene panel by assessing a slew of earlier studies on schizophrenia: Data from humans and animals on gene variation and gene behavior all fed into the team?s analysis. If a gene popped out of several different datasets, the reasoning went, it is probably important to schizophrenia. Niculescu compares this method ? called convergent functional genomics ? to an Internet search: ?The more links to a web page, the higher it comes up on your search list.?

After sifting through all of this data, the team identified some top candidates, some already known to be related to schizophrenia (DISC1, a known culprit, sits at the top of the list) and a handful that have never before been linked to the disease.

?This is an interesting attempt at integrating data,? says Pablo Gejman of NorthShore University Health System in Evanston, Ill. and the University of Chicago. But the results come with many caveats, he says: Integrating a wide variety of data generated in earlier experiments can be problematic. Earlier studies may have been testing specific ideas that may not be relevant to the current study, and earlier negative results may have been overlooked, for instance. It?s too soon to say what the results really mean, he says. ?It?s evolving science, and I don?t know where it will go.?

ZeroN slips surly bonds, re-runs your 3D gestures in mid-air

zeron-levitation-mit-media-labs

Playback of 3D motion capture with a computer is nothing new, but how about with a solid levitating object? MIT’s Media Lab has developed ZeroN, a large magnet and 3D actuator, which can fly an “interaction element” (aka ball bearing) and control its position in space. You can also bump it to and fro yourself, with everything scanned and recorded, and then have real-life, gravity-defying playback showing planetary motion or virtual cameras, for example. It might be impractical right now as a Minority Report-type object-based input device, but check the video after the break to see its awesome potential for 3D visualization.

Not willing to give up your old dumbphone, but still need something to feed your Android addiction? You’re in luck: Samsung’s serving up two devices today rocking Google’s dessert themed OS, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and the Galaxy Player 4.2. Sammy’s latest slate rings in at $400, buying 16GB of internal memory (expandable to 32GB via microSD), a 1GHz dual-core processor and a serving of Ice Cream Sandwich. The Galaxy Player 4.2, on the other hand, can be found munching Gingerbread for a mere $200. If you’re looking for a new Galaxy that makes phone calls, however, you’ll have to wait for the Galaxy S III.

Apple renames iPad Wi-Fi + 4G to less controversial iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular

Apple.com no longer shows a product called iPad Wi-Fi + 4G, and has instead renamed it to the the less controversial iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular. The problem with the term 4G is that U.S. carriers have utterly abused it and robbed it of any consumer-helpful meaning.

Apple to drop Google Maps with the next iPhone?

Google Maps

Rumor has it that the next iPhone will eschew Google's Maps backend in favor of Apple's own. Rene over at iMore, who has a good handle on how the minds in Cupertino operate, has a great overview of Apple's supposed current strategy that you really should read to try to make sense out of this one. The short version — Apple wants to shed Google's services. Not because users have a problem using them, but because they don't want Google to profit. Instead of offering an additional choice with their own version of a maps app, they are just going to replace what users know and love with something that generates less profit for Google. Smart business move, but a pretty foul dump on the users.

They're going to need some real magic to pull this one off. In the current version, Apple builds the UI and Google provides the mapping data. Google is really good at mapping stuff. The rumored version-in-waiting is supposed to add a 3D view, becoming the new killer feature for the next version of iOS. The problem is, users don't care about 3D map view (or anything 3D on their mobile devices) — they care about features, ease-of-use, and integration. Apple can certainly take care of the integration part, and even give it some of that good old fashioned Apple magic in the UI department. But that still isn't going to cut it. Google has the one big thing™ when it comes to maps and navigation — search data.

When you tap the button and tell your phone to find 1313 Mockingbird Lane, there's this unfathomably huge pool of data Google has at it's disposal to populate that map. Need to know where the closest Starbucks is? Ask Siri, or just look at the Google Maps app. Apple can't replicate this without years of its own data. Users will be left with an app with a pretty front-end, that's actually a step backwards in functionality. Apple will either have to offer a sub-par maps experience, or use Google anyway. And the first person who says Bing has to stay late and clean the chalkboard. That's two steps backwards.

Google creates the web services people want and use — even people with iPhones. This is a space where Apple is going to find it's difficult to compete, and fickle users may just look elsewhere. Of course, you'll find just as many bloggers telling tales of how great this is, and that Apple invented Maps. It's going to be interesting to watch this one play out.

Connected Moms: Nielsen Says 54% Own Smartphones; 75% Use Facebook; 5M Visit Pinterest Monthly

whistler's mother bloggerNielsen has been running some research into different demographics and their impact in the digital world, and their latest — quite possibly as a hat-tip to Mother’s Day this weekend — is a look at U.S. moms, a group that you might have assumed would be technical luddites, but actually are holding their own very well, thankyouverymuch. It turns out that mothers are above average smartphone users, big fans of Facebook and Pinterest, and that the concept of a “mommy blogger” is actually a reality. The results also show that they are some of the most engaged consumers online.
